Celebrating 50 Years of Operations Research

Organized operations research in America was born 50 years ago in a founding meeting in Harriman, N.Y., chaired by the legendary Philip M. Morse. This year, INFORMS celebrates this golden anniversary with a series of publications, events and special surprises.

You, our valued member, represent the lifeblood of our organization — the very ingredient that makes our history and future so wonderfully rich. To express our appreciation for your continued support and contributions, we've created a special anniversary gift for you: a commemorative CD.

The commemorative CD, only included in those copies of OR/MS Today sent to INFORMS members, contains the following:

  • The 50th anniversary edition of the journal Operations Research. In addition, we've included the first issue (Vol. 1, Issue 1, November 1952) and the first issue of Vol. 25 (Vol. 25, Issue 1, January 1977) of Operations Research.
  • An OR Timeline
  • The ORSA Presidential Gallery and Scrapbook
  • The video "Operations Research: Science and Technology for Informed Decision Making"

Additional copies of the CD are available for $10 for INFORMS members and $15 for non-members. Contact Lisa Klose (lisa.klose@informs.org) to place an order. Inquiries for bulk discounts are available and will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

We hope you enjoy this special gift. Happy anniversary, and thank you for choosing INFORMS as your professional connection.
