Management Science Editor Sought

Gabriel Bitran, the editor of Management Science, has indicated his intention to step down at the end of 1996. A search committee is now soliciting nominations for the next editor.

Finalists will be asked to submit a response addressing the following questions: 1. What do you envision as the future of the management science profession, and how can the journal Management Science best serve the needs of the profession?

2. What do you envision as the future of the journal Management Science, particularly with respect to its targeted readership, its relationship to INFORMS' publications, and its alignment with the mission of INFORMS?

3. What do you see as the role of electronic publishing in all of this?

4. What do you see as the major strengths of the journal, and how would you build on these? What do you see as the major weaknesses of the journal, and how would you work to remedy these?

5. Are there new areas of research that Management Science should be covering? Are there areas currently covered by the journal that should no longer be covered?

6. How do you view the role of the editor, departmental editors, and associate editors?

7. What is the appropriate mix of academics and practitioners in the refereeing and editorial process, and how can this mix be achieved?

8. What improvements would help achieve consistently high quality, fair reviews? What procedures would you suggest to reduce review times and the time between acceptance and publication? Are there other ways in which the journal could better serve authors and readers?
